Day 3 - So I suck at this
September 30, 2010 -Fighting the temptation of the lonely atis in the ref...I already ate 2 after lunch (I only bought 3 on my way home from the hospital) Atis, or sweet sop or sugar apple, is my favorite fruit! Very bad for someone watching her sugar. :) Lost the fight come dinner time.
I'm sorry if this trivializes things
A lot has been written on the blast that shook De La Salle University at the end of the 2010 bar exams last Sept. 26, 2010. Read notes and status(es) on FB and you'll see what I mean. Once again, people are scrambling to make sense of the events that unfolded. Reports show that the blast is frat-related. Violence and fraternities. Really.
Once again, words like brotherhood and omerta are being bandied about. Once again, fraternities have closed ranks and issuing statements like "That's not us", "We're not that kind of fraternity", "We didn't do that", "Not one of our members will do that". Once again, authorities, schools and parents are calling for stricter control and harsher punishment for the perpetrators.
What's different this time is that they saw fit to throw their grenade in the middle of a crowd of people in the middle of what is supposed to be a joyous occasion. (let's face it, the mere fact of finishing the bar exams IS cause for celebration.) Ok, so maybe the grenade's a first too.
When I first heard the news on Sunday night, I thought "fraternities". As more news filtered in the idea that it was frat-related became more concrete. Sucks. I even entertained the idea that the people involved may be people I ACTUALLY know. In the course of my work, I've met a lot of other lawyers from other schools and some of them are fraternity members. I sometimes can't get my head around the fact that some of them went through hazing and later on hazed their incoming "brods".
While I'm not totally for or against fraternities and sororities (I was almost part of one, and they're great women), I also have to remind myself that fraternities and sororities have done some people some good. There's this one classmate who would've dropped out of law school if not for the intervention of the fraternity, the assistance they give during bar ops. Or how about the job opportunities and connections that you develop and foster through being "brods" and "sisses"? Of course, there are also the great fundraisers to benefit their various causes. Those can't be denied.
But still, a grenade in the middle of an innocent crowd? Really. It's just a pointless, meaningless, "I'm dumber than you are but my explosions are bigger" shit.
(C'mon, what good would a grenade be in the middle of empty space, huh?)
I hope the responsible parties get chewed and eaten alive (very sloooooowly) by fire ants and slugs and leeches AND that they see it happening.

Contemplating my circumstances
I still haven't figured it all out but I'm working on it.
My Personality from Facebook
It's such a lazy Sunday, I'm taking quizzes on FB. Here's one result from My Personality:
Jungian Typology Estimate
Research has found that the Big Five personality traits are significantly related to Jungian Typology. This is a popular alternative personality framework regularly used for personal development, in which Types are used rather than Traits. Based on your Big five trait scores, your estimated Type is shown below:

ENTP
Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving
ENTPs are frequently described as clever, cerebrally and verbally quick, enthusiastic, outgoing, innovative, and resourceful. ENTPs are motivated by a desire to understand and improve the world they live in. They are usually accurate in sizing up a situation. They may have a perverse sense of humor and sometimes play devil's advocate, which can create misunderstandings with friends, coworkers, and family. ENTPs are ingenious and adept at directing relationships between means and ends. ENTPs think outside the box, devising fresh, unexpected solutions to difficult problems. However, they are less interested in generating and following through with detailed plans than in generating ideas and possibilties. ENTPs are quick to see complex interrelationships between people, things, and ideas. These interrelationships are analyzed in profound detail. The result is an in-depth understanding of the way things and relationships work, and how they can be improved.

Laws on Courtship
I found this really old book (pamphlet) in my sister's stuff. It's an interesting read, which I totally relate to despite being out of college since 2003. I like this chapter:
Lesson 23 -- Laws on Courtship (From "It's a Jungle Out There" by Heinz Carlo Bulos)
Art. 143. Falling in love, when. There is prima facie evidence that a person is in love if the following conditions occur:
Art. 144. Burden of proof, on whom. If a man initiates courtship and declares his love to a woman, the woman has the option to seek evidence, in which case, the burden of proof is on the man.
Art. 145. Warranty. Every male suitor courting a female prospect warrants that:
Art. 147. Indorsements, how made. Any matchmaker may indorse a friend to another by teasing them, arranging a date or warning them of potential singlehood and celibacy.
Art. 148. Courting, how to. Any form of courtship may be practised by the contracting parties as they may deem convenient, provided they are not contrary to law, morals, good custom, public order and public policy.
Art. 149. Rejection, when allowed. The female party may turn down the proposal of the male party if the said person is one of the following:
Art. 151. Consent, when voidable. Consent made by the female party given through mistake, violence, intimidation, undue influence or fraud is voidable.
Art. 152. Presentment, how made. A male party makes presentment of love by expressly stating that he will climb the highest mountain, swim the deepest sea, cross the widest desert, and reach the moon.
Presentment can also be implied when the suitor actually climbed Mt. Everest, swam across the Pacific Ocean, travelled through the Sahara Desert and is a NASA astronaut.
Art. 153. Dishonor by non-acceptance, when. A suitor is dishonored by non-acceptance when the female party dumps him.
Art. 154. Moral damages. A male party, after being rejected, may suffer moral damages which include physical suffering, mental anguish, fright, serious anxiety, besmirched reputation, wounded feelings, moral shock, social humiliation and similar injury.
Art. 155. Liability of female party. The female party who busted the male party is not rendered liable for any damages or loss if she rejected the male suitor in good faith.
In cases of bad faith, as when she expressly or impliedly caused the male party to have vain hope or expectancy, she is simply leading him on and is liable to make an apology and quickly clarify matters.
Art. 156. Commitment. A commitment is a meeting of minds between two persons where one binds himself, with respect to the other, to love, give and share.
Art. 157. Care. The man, during the course of the relationship, is expected to take care of the woman with the proper diligence of a good father of a family, a good husband to a wife and a good pal to a friend.

Art. 143. Falling in love, when. There is prima facie evidence that a person is in love if the following conditions occur:
- the person cannot concentrate during his/her daily tasks
- the person frequently conjures up images of the other party
- the person does mushy things
- the person gets titillated just by seeing or talking to the other party.
Art. 144. Burden of proof, on whom. If a man initiates courtship and declares his love to a woman, the woman has the option to seek evidence, in which case, the burden of proof is on the man.
Art. 145. Warranty. Every male suitor courting a female prospect warrants that:
- his intentions are genuine
- he is deserving and worthy of the woman's love
- he has capacity to court
- he has knowledge of the responsibilities that go with a relationship
Art. 147. Indorsements, how made. Any matchmaker may indorse a friend to another by teasing them, arranging a date or warning them of potential singlehood and celibacy.

- an unemancipated minor
- an insane or demented person
- a fictitious person
- if the woman's suitor and the suitor of someone else are one and the same
- the person acted in bad faith
- the person is not your type
Art. 151. Consent, when voidable. Consent made by the female party given through mistake, violence, intimidation, undue influence or fraud is voidable.

5 cakes!!!
We had a long overdue dinner with J, S and K to "talk" about stuff last Sept 17. Of course, it turned into a mini-gossip session slash intervention hehehe.
Since K has not yet had the chance to celebrate her birthday with us, we went to Classic Confections for dessert. We splurged on 5 cakes, which we managed to finish naman...Twehehehe.

UP Pep Squad wins 2010 championship
Watch the 2010 UP Pep Squad
This is a somewhat delayed posting -- ok, a delayed posting. I'm so happy for them! All the hardwork, late nights, sore bodies really paid off.
I miss cheerleading. There's something so exhilirating about nailing a dance routine, a stunt series, or that pyramid! I loved being tossed and being caught (like duh!). I loved the feeling of togetherness that the squad has. I loved winning.
I loved climbing atop the pyramid and throwing myself into the air without any doubt that my catcher will catch me. I wish I had that same trust when it comes to my relationships. I guess the difficulty in relationships is that the effect isn't so immediate. In cheerleading, if you fall and nobody catches you, the pain is immediate. You might suffer a sprain, some scratches or maybe a few broken bones...but you know it heals, it fades. But with love, sometimes a person can get you so high... make you believe that heaven IS on earth. So you swan around, not looking where you're going ....then SPLAT!
Ok, I don't know what happened! Congratulations UP PEP!!!
On another note, R's visa got approved!!! Yey! Yey! Yey! Now, I have to save up so I can visit her. :))
