While waiting for 2011

I'm going to show what I did while waiting for Santa.  Hahaha! Super delayed post...

I messed with my brother's dslr while waiting for midnight mass and while I was assigned at the gate to give aginaldo to the carolers. I had him fix the settings so I could take night pictures and basically treat his dslr as my own point-and-shoot camera.

Here are some of my pictures:

I was taking pictures of the mango tree in front of the house because I liked how the camera was able to pick out the detail of the leaves.  Then my brother told me I might get a picture of something "scary", so I stopped.  Yup, I'm a big scaredy-cat.

I turned to the sky instead.  This was about 9pm, December 24.  It was a cloudy night and the sky was slightly orange-y.

Then, I tried some artsy-fartsy thing with the gate.

Anyway, it's 10:30pm, 1.5 hours until 2011.  It's quiet in our neighborhood.  I guess people here are heeding the DOH's call not to use fireworks. And hopefully, people are getting smart enough not to burn their money.  Oh, ok, except for that distant neighbor who sounds like he bought all the illegal fireworks shown on t.v.!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Things to do and resolutions

Home from Chi and Punch's wedding! Was sleepy earlier but now hyped...now boiling potatoes, carrots and chicken for tomorrow's salad, gonna dice them later. Hopefully the tedium will let me sleep.

Received an unexpected text on the way home tonight!!! Hahaha! Why'd you have to remind me of Jon? gah. I wonder if he's proposed to his girlfriend...

Well, the new year is looming and I've decided to make a list of resolutions. Believe me, I didn't do this before.  But, in line with my being, ehem, "more mature", I'm going to make a list of my resolutions and my things to do. Hahahah! But I'll also be covering my ass by not distinguishing between my "must-dos" and my "nice-to-dos".

Ok here goes:

1. Be more compassionate - coz, admittedly, I'm sometimes mata pobre
2. Save 1/4 of my salary - for future needs hahaha!
3. Be conscious of my posture - I'm getting slouchy AND a double chin. yech.
4. Seize the day more often or do something new every month
5. Learn to cook something exotic like pickled jellyfish or candied fish eyeballs or something like that
6. Lose 5 kilos or go back to waist size 27 whichever happens first
7. Travel around the Philippines -- Luzon first, then the other islands
8. Get to the Caverns of Hammerfest Hall of Fame

I'm going to stop here since 8 seems like a nice do-able number.

Christmas "party"

At the invitation of JCAC, we went to his ancestral house in Pulilan, Bulacan! It was a beautiful example of an old Philippine house complete with azotea.  Hehehe, reminds me of Noli Me Tangere and high school.  The house itself was beautifully maintained with what looked like the original floor boards and ceiling. And, a huuuuuggggeeee lawn.  I could just see little children running around, playing with their dogs.

We had a simple lunch and then bingo! and then some other games afterward.

Some pictures of the place:

Fountain 1 from the front veranda

Front veranda. Ate Venus taking my pic!

Wide shot of the interior

Facade from the backyard.  And yes! That's fountain 2.

There were a lot of really old trees.  Probably scary at night.  Anyway, pictures of tree canopies:

If I had a lounger, view from the backyard:

I don't need a man

I don't need a man

to climb the highest mountain for me
to swim the deepest ocean
to write my name on the sky
to do anything dangerous...

See, I'm secretly singing this song :)

People always tell me to seize the day! Don't be afraid to take risks! Grab life by the balls!

Well, I grabbed it by the balls all right, and all I got to show for it are scars from being dragged behind the speeding train of life and love.

:(

it hurts so much in different ways

in the way that i blame myself

in the way that i miss you

in the way that i think about the little things i could have done to change this

30!

30! I don't know how I'm supposed to feel now that I'm 30...I feel the same. I still like the same things -- ice cream, cartoons, children's and teen's fiction, disney and pixar movies, falling asleep hugging my pillow, milk, playing dress-up, and using big words to sound more mature. :))

Anyway, I may not have any wisdom teeth yet, but I have some nuggets of wisdom, picked up from my ehem, 3 decades of life.  Here are my rules to live by:  Some are a hard, some take practice, some are a work in progress.

1. Always be open to what life has to offer, be willing to try anything at least once.
2. Always assume the best in people and their intentions.
3. Always be honest with yourself. Be honest with other people, but don't sacrifice tact and diplomacy.
4. Love yourself first, you'll find that it's easier to love others when you love yourself
5. Accept that other people are different (or difficult)
6. Pag may kati, pwedeng kamutin, hindi obligatory na pakasalan (words of wisdom from my mom! passed down to me when I turned 18.  Unfortunately, I think she's regretting telling me this because I learned it a little TOO well. hahaha)
7. Don't be afraid to show affection or your feelings.
8. Say thank you and please.
9.  When giving compliments, look the compliment-ee in the eye and smile.
10. Thank God!

Christmas tree at home

As promised, Christmas tree pictures...no lights yet.

With the lopsided star...it used to be a drunken angel :)

We don't follow any kind of theme when we decorate the tree...Some of these ornaments are older than me.

Hohoho!!!
